With the weather warming up for spring earlier than expected, I’ve been finding myself in flats much more often than boots this winter season. And I’m so glad because flats always seem to be the easiest and most effortless option, in my opinion. From work to play and denim to dresses, they go with everything for almost any occasion and I always love finding new, comfy styles that can do double duty.

Last spring, the Everlane Day Glove became my favorite everyday-flat (seriously beyond comfy!), so I was thrilled to see Everlane come out with a new shoe: The 40-Hour Flat.

Description:

From long commutes to even longer meetings, this flat works overtime. Made for workday comfort, the 40-Hour Flat features soft, unlined Italian leather that molds to your foot, a flexible rubber outsole, and a cushioned insole. Plus, topstitching and a polished pointed toe kick your office-hours outfits up a notch. It really deserves a raise.

In short, the 40-Hour Flat is meant to keep you feeling polished yet comfortable and I feel that’s exactly what they do! There’s an instant chicness a pointed toe offers and these Everlane flats are no exception. A pointed toe tends to be the style I reach for with straight leg pants, as the style can really help elongate the leg line. If an outfit ever feels “frumpy” my first swap is always to a pointed toe shoe. There’s a sleek and polished feel about the style and I find a pair in a nude tone only adds to that appeal. These ones are a taupe tone that hits somewhere between putty and brown—a really unique color that can do a lot.

Sizing:

I noticed some mixed reviews on the Everlane site. I’m consistently in between sizes (8 and 8.5) and almost always size up to 8.5 in Everlane shoes. The 8.5 in these fits me perfectly. For reference, I wear a size 8 in Nike and an 8.5 in brands like Madewell and Steve Madden. Everlane recommends wider feet take their normal size.

Comfort Factor:

This is a question I’ve been receiving a lot and I can honestly say the 40-Hour Flat is truly comfortable straight out of the box…and I’m not sure I’ve ever said that about a pointed-toe flat. Pointed toe styles tend to be structured (read stiff) and these are really the softest of any pair I own. The leather is relatively thin and flexible, though they do have seaming along the edge to add subtle structure so they hold their shape. These didn’t have any break-in period for me and I haven’t experienced any blisters or squished toes! They don’t have any extreme padding but they’re cushioned and soft on the foot.

My feet are relatively average to narrow so I can’t speak to wider feet, however, since they’re soft and have some flexibility, I would be inclined to say they’d be a great option for a wider foot to try.

The Look:

We’ve been experiencing warmer weather here lately and I’ve been enjoying many pre-spring days! Everlane makes staples you can really live in for any and every occasion and this look is full of essentials that do double duty, especially during these transitional months.

I’ve always admired Everlane’s sustainable approach to cashmere this 100% cashmere tank is the epitome of perfection. It’s one of the newer cashmere silhouettes in their cashmere collection and is so perfect for spring. It’s dreamily soft, timeless and really is the perfect shell for layering - for both work and play! I sized up from an xs to a small for a slightly relaxed fit. I also love their cashmere tee and they just released a few new fun, spring colors!

I tucked my cashmere tank into their new Super Straight Jean and I love the high rise on these. These are definitely a flattering mom jean option for both work and play. For reference, I’m 5’6” and have the regular length in a size 24. I typically wear a size 25 in other brands.

I topped the look with a lightweight layer - The ReNew Windbreaker - which has really been my go-to for dog walks lately thanks to its sporty look. It’s made from recycled fabric derived from plastic water bottles, water-resistant and very lightweight, making it easy to grab-and-go paired with leggings or tie around the waist over an everyday-casual outfit.
